Donald Trump may never have heard about Rakhi but he will be receiving 1001 sacred threads on the day of Raksha Bandhan. Women and girls of a distant Muslim dominated Marora village which has been named after US President by an NGO, will send Trump sacred threads called rakhis. The village is part of the backward Mewat region in the state of Haryana. Raksha Bandhan is the festival which celebrates the bond of a sister and brother.

The NGO which has adopted the village has said that the gesture represents the wish of the people where they want the ties between India and US to be strengthen further.

The village had come into limelight after SulabhInternational Social Service Organisation (SISSO) chiefBindeshwar Pathak had announced to name it 'Trump's village'.

The district administration had later said the move torename the village was "illegal", forcing the organisationmembers to remove boards mentioning the new name.

They said signage boards and banners carrying the newname of the village and image of Trump had been removed by theorganisation. The village, with a population of 1,800 people, liesunder Punhana Tehshil, some 60 km from Gurgaon. "The NGO has been conducting many welfare programs forwomen and girls in the village," Monica Jain, vice presidentof the NGO, said.

"These students have made 1001 rakhis with photos ofDonald Trump and 501 rakhis for Narendra Modi. Women and girlsof the village consider them their elder brothers," she said. The consignment of rakhis was sent yesterday throughcargo so that it reached the US president on Raksha Bandhan onAugust 7.

The villagers are also sending invitations to thetwo leaders to visit the village. Widows of the village have also expressed a desire tomeet Modi on Raksha Bandhan at his residence in the nationalcapital and tie rakhis. "I have made 150 rakhis within three days for Trumpbhaiyaa. I also written in a letter to be sent to the WhiteHouse that the girls of your village want you to visit it withPM Modi," said 15-year-old Rekha Rani, a resident of thevillage.

Sulabh had recently constructed 95 toilets in Marora toimplement Prime Minister Narendra Modi's flagship program tomake every village in the country open defecation free. The village has 140 houses and only 45 of them wereequipped with toilet facility. Sulabh constructed theremaining 95 toilets, Jain said.
