A fierce encounter broke out between terrorists and security forces at Hapat Naalah area of Zinpanchal in Jammu and Kashmir’s Budgam district on Monday, the police said. At least three terrorists were gunned down in the encounter with a joint team of 53 Rashtriya Rifles, Budgam police and CRPF. The encounter broke out when security forces launched a cordon and search operation following intelligence inputs about the presence of terrorists in the area.

As the forces were closing in, the terrorists opened fire, prompting security forces to retaliate. The area has been cordoned off the police. “Brief exchange of fire at Hapat Naalah area of Zinpanchal in District Budgam. Area under cordon. Details shall follow,” Kashmir Police tweeted.

Ahead of the Republic Day, the terrorists are reportedly planning a major attack in the state. In view of the threat of terrorist attack, Jammu and Kashmir Police has issued an advisory to officers, asking them to remain vigil round-the-clock as several new checkpoints have been set up for frisking of people.

The present security situation in the state and impending threats from anti-national elements, some nakas and frisking points have been established in the city as well as rural areas for the security and safety of the people.

The incharges of border police posts have been directed to keep a vigil on infiltration routes along the Line of Control (LoC) and the international border (IB) with Pakistan.
