The Director of India Meteorological Department (IMD) General KG Ramesh on Tuesday said that monsoon distribution is expected to be very good.
“Expect monsoon distribution to be very good. Monsoon likely to reach Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal by June 13-14,” said Gen KG Ramesh.
Ramesh added that monsoon rainfall is seen at 98 per cent of long period average and June-September Central India rainfall seen at 100 per cent of average.
"El Nino likely in second half of monsoon, but is seen weak," said Ramesh.
The Southwest monsoon has already hit Kerala.
Last year, the IMD had made an initial forecast of “above normal” rainfall, but it belied its prediction and ended the seasons with normal precipitation.
Last year, the southern peninsula had registered deficient rainfall and several parts of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala reeled under drought-like situation.
