Four children died after post-vaccination for measles and Japanese encephalitis in Jharkhand’s Palamu district on Sunday.

According to reports, four children from Palamu’s Patan village, around 200 kilometers from state capital, Ranchi,  fell ill post-vaccination.

According to government officials the vaccine was administered at Patan village on Saturday afternoon. At least, 11 children were given vaccines at Anganwadi Centre. Soon after the post-vaccination the children fell ill. Three died in their house and one during treatment in the district hospital.

Four other children are being treated at different medical centres in the state. Three under medical care at Palamu district hospital, while one is being treated at the state’s largest government hospital, RIMS.

Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das has ordered an inquiry into the incident and announced a compensation of Rs 1 lakh to the deceased toddlers’ parents.

An inquiry team has been formed by the state principal secretary health enquire the incident. The inquiry team have been directed to submit the report within a week’s time. Two members team of the World Health Organisation (WHO) and UNICEF will also be assisting the state government formed inquiry team.
