New Delhi:
As the sun set over the Rashtrapati Bhavan on Thursday, Narendra Modi and his council of ministers were sworn in for a second successive term with 8,000 people packing into the forecourt of the historic British-era presidential palace. The Modi 2.0 Cabinet, however, has inducted a lot of new faces, with several high-profile ministers from the previous government, including Sushma Swaraj, Arun Jaitley, Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore and Maneka Gandhi, being left out of the new dispensation.
Here is a complete list of ministers from previous government who could not make it to the Modi 2.0 Cabinet:
1. Arun Jaitley: Arun Jaitley, who served as the Finance Minister of India under the Narendra Modi-led BJP government between 2014 and 2019, to PM Modi that he will "not be part of any responsibility, for the present, in the new government". Jaitley has been facing some serious health issues from the last few months.
2. Uma Bharti: Uma Bharti was the Cabinet Minister for Drinking Water and Sanitation in the BJP-led Narendra Modi government between 2014 and 2019.
3. Sushma Swaraj: Sushma Swaraj, a former Supreme Court lawyer, was serving as the Minister of External Affairs of India in the previous Narendra Modi government. After Indira Gandhi, Swaraj was the second woman to hold the office.
4. Maneka Gandhi: Maneka Sanjay Gandhi was the Union Cabinet Minister for Women & Child Development in the Modi Sarkar 1.
5. Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore: Rathore, who served in Indian Army and retired as Colonel, was made the Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting in November, 2014. Post that, he was appointed as a Cabinet minister with independent charge for Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports in 2017.
6. Jual Oram: Oram was chosen as the Union Tribal Affairs Minister in the previous BJP-led NDA government.
7. Suresh Prabhu: Prabhu served as the Minister of Commerce & Industry and Civil Aviation under the previous Modi government.
8. Birender Singh: Chaudhary Birender Singh Dumerkhan was the Minister of Rural Development, Panchayati Raj, Sanitation & Drinking Water later of Steel from 2016 to 2019 in the Narendra Modi led NDA Government in India.
9. Radha Mohan Singh: Singh was given the portfolio of Minister of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare in the previous Narendra Modi government.
10. Jagat Prakash Nadda: Nadda, who served as the Minister of Health and Family Welfare, is left out of the new Narendra Modi Cabinet. There are reports that Nadda will replace Amit Shah as the national president of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
11. Dr. Mahesh Sharma: Sharma, who is a physician by profession, was appointed as a Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Culture and Tourism and Civil Aviation, after Modi-led BJP government came to power for the first time in 2014.
12. Manoj Sinha: Sinha was the Minister of Communications and Minister of State, Railways in the previous Government of India.
13. Alphons Kannanthanam: Kannanthanam, an advocate by profession, was inducted as the Union Minister of State for Culture, and Tourism, in office since 3 September 2017 under the Modi government 1.
14. Vijay Goel: Goel was appointed as the Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs and Statistic and Implementation in the previous NDA government.
15. Pon Radhakrishnan: Radhakrishnan was made the Minister of State in the Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Shipping between May 2014 and May 2019.
16. Ramesh Jigajinagi: In the previous Narendra Modi government, Jigajinagi served as the Union Minister of State for Drinking Water and Sanitation.
17. SS Ahluwalia: Ahluwalia, who was a Union Minister of State in the previous government, is now a member of Parliament of India representing Durgapur Lok Sabha constituency in West Bengal in the 17th Lok Sabha.
18. Anupriya Patel: Patel, who was the Minister of State in the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in the previous Modi government, is another big name to be left out of Modi Cabinet 2.0.
19. Jayant Sinha: Sinha, who was the Minister of State for Civil Aviation in the previous NDA government, has been also drooped from the list of ministers inducted into the new Modi Cabinet.
20. Ram Kripal Yadav: Yadav was made the Minister of States for Rural Development in the previous BJP dispensation.
21. Shiv Pratap Shukla: Shukla, who previously served as the Minister of State for Finance, also could not make it to the list of miniters inducted into the Modi 2.0 Cabinet.
22. M J Akbar: Akbar, who resigned as the Minister of State (MoS) for External Affairs, in the wake of #MeToo allegations against him, has also been left out from the new Modi Cabinet.
23. Virendra Kumar: Kumar, who was made the Minister Of State for Ministry of Minority Affairs, has not been inducted into the new Modi Cabinet.
24. Satya Pal Singh: Singh, who was India's Minister of State for Human Resource Development responsible for Higher Education and Minister of State in the Ministry of Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation, is excluded from the new Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
25. Subhash Bhamre: Bhamre was appointed as the Minister of State for Defence between 2016 and 2019, but is left out from the current Modi Cabinet.
26. Ajay Tamta: Tamta, who was the Minister of State for Textiles in the previous government, could not make it to the new Cabinet.
27. Anant Kumar Hegde: Hegde, who served as the Union Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship in the previous government, has not been assigned with a portfolio in the new Cabinet.
