New Delhi:

Fuel prices in India continue to surge on Monday (September 24) pushing the petrol price to cross the Rs 90 per litre mark in Mumbai, while diesel stood at Rs 78.58 per litre in the financial capital, rising by 11 paise per litre and 5 paise per litre respectively. While in Delhi, the petrol price touched Rs 82.72 per litre and diesel was priced at Rs 74.02 per litre today.

“Petrol & Diesel prices in #Delhi are Rs.82.72 per litre & Rs.74.02 per litre, respectively. Petrol & Diesel prices in #Mumbai are Rs.90.08 per litre & Rs.78.58 per litre, respectively,” reported News Agency ANI.

The new prices have been made effective from 6 am on September 24, 2018.

Fuel price have witnessed a sharp rise since August 16 owing to rise in crude oil price in the international market.

Fuel price in the national capital are at the lowest because of lower VAT and sales tax, while Mumbai has the highest VAT.

Earlier, states like West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan and Karnataka had slashed the fuel rates to hand huge relief to daily commuters and common people.

Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev had earlier predicted the Modi government could be heavily affected due to the massive hike in fuel prices in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
