Patna:
A 29-year-old junior engineer of Bokaro Steel Plant was allegedly kidnapped and forced to marry a woman at gunpoint in Bihar’s capital last month.
The incident came to light after a video clipping of the alleged ‘Pakadua Vivah (forced marriage)’ went viral on social media.
The video clip of the ‘forced wedding’ making rounds on the social media shows the junior engineer Vinod Kumar dressed as a groom. He is being forced by the girl's relatives to perform wedding rituals in Patna’s Pandarak area.
In the video, Kumar can be seen crying and begging to be released as a group of women is allegedly forcing him to perform the marriage rituals. Women can be heard telling him, “We are getting you married. Not killing you.”
One can also see a woman wiping Vinod's tears with her shawl.
According to Kumar’s relatives, he was abducted from Mokama railway station. “He was returning to Bokaro after attending a friend's marriage in Patna.”
“The girl’s brother had called me last month. He informed me about Kumar’s abduction and even asked me to attend the marriage,” said Sanjay Kumar, brother Vinod.
Sanjay further added that he had contacted the Pandarak Police and had briefed them about the abduction.
"Police did not rescue my brother," claimed Sanjay.
"My brother was only rescued after we contacted the Patna senior superintendent of police,” said Sanjay.
Sanjay also added that he is receiving threat calls from the girl’s family. “They are threatening us. They are pressurising us to accept the girl as Vinod’s wife.”
