Haryana Opinion Poll: Narendra Modi remains preferred choice for PM but Rahul Gandhi not that far behind

Congress party president Rahul Gandhi has already expressed his interest to become the prime minister if the Congress or a coalition led by the party manages to get a majority in the upcoming 2019 Lok Sabha elections. With elections around the corner, the most important question at the moment is who is the top choice for the prime minister's position. News Nation has conducted an opinion poll in Haryana to find out an answer to this question and other relevant issues. According to the News Nation Opinion Poll, 39 per cent of the people feel that Narendra Modi is the most favourable prime ministerial candidate in 2019 Lok Sabha polls. However, 34 per cent of people want Rahul Gandhi to run the country.

In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP had won 7 out of 10 Lok Sabha seats in Haryana. The BJP had contested on 8 seats and its alliance partner the HJC had contested on two seats in Haryana. Whereas, the Congress had won only one seat (Rohtak) in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls. Dushyant Chautala of INLD had defeated HJC's Bishnoi in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. Chautala had defeated Bishnoi with over 31,000 votes.

As per the News Nation poll survey in the state, the BJP is projected to win 5 seats whereas the Congress may bag 3. The Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) and the Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) may win one seat each in 2019 General Elections.

As far as the vote share is concerned, the BJP is likely to get 30 per cent of vote share, the Congress may get 29 per cent of votes, the INLD is likely to secure 15 per cent of vote share while the newly-formed JJP to get 12 per cent of votes, predicted News Nation Opinion Poll.

When asked about the biggest issue which they will keep in mind while voting for Lok Sabha Elections, 20 per cent people voted for inflation. Corruption (16 per cent), employment (15 per cent) and basic infrastructure (8 per cent) are some other important issues which people of the state will consider at the time of voting.

The BJP is likely to get more votes than the Congress in  the state, despite this 49 per cent people are not satisfied with the work of the BJP government in Haryana. Not only this, 44 per cent people of the state are not satisfied with the PM Modi-led NDA government.

Most of the people (44 per cent) in the state feel that government's decision to reserve 10% of seats for the general category poor will benefit the BJP in the Lok Sabha elections. But 32 per cent believe that it won't help the party.

People may not be happy with the work of the BJP government, but 34 per cent people feel the ruling party can address their issues. On the other hand, 31 per cent of them feel that the Congress can address their issues better.

The most important thing is that 46 per cent people found substance in Congress chief Rahul Gandhi's allegations against the Modi government over Rafale jet deal and 37 per cent found it baseless. During the opinion poll, News Nation found that 34 per cent people of the state are of the opinion that development has been the Modi government's prime focus. When asked whether the Modi government is giving a befitting reply to China and Pakistan, 44 per cent of people in Haryana said 'Yes'.
