New Delhi:

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday issued a thunderstorm warning accompanied with squall and hail in several parts of northern and eastern India on Tuesday. The concerned authorities have decided to exercise caution and put in place emergency measures like closure of educational institutions and cancelling leaves of civic officials.

The IMD alert suggested that thunderstorm accompanied by squall and hail could hit isolated places in Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh on Tuesday. The wind may go up to 50-70 kilometres per hours at some places, IMD said.

Over 100 people have lost their lives while several injured due to the thunderstorms, dust storms and lightening which hit northern India last week.

Schools in Ghaziabad will remain shut following the thunderstorm alert which was issued for the city.

All educational institutions in Meerut will remain closed on Tuesday as a precautionary measure.

The Delhi government issued a list of ‘Dos and Don’ts’ following an alert by the weather department. The advisory asked the people to prepare an emergency kit which contain essential items.

The Delhi government had earlier announced that the evening schools in the city would be close on Tuesday following the weather alert.
