When Pindi Anuradha and Lakshman decided to get married against their parents' wishes, little did they know that their years of romance will come to a gory end. Last week, on Saturday, Pindi Anuradha was thrashed on roads of her village, dragged to a hilltop and set ablaze by her parents, a Hindustan Times reported on Monday. The report said that the 22-year-old victim had married her 26-year-old partner in Hyderabad on December 3rd. Later, the couple approached the local police, which brought them to the man’s village in Telangana recently.
Trouble began as soon as they landed in Jannaram. The girl's parents came to her in-laws' house, tortured the boy and took her away.
"They forcibly took away Anuradha to her house, beating her mercilessly on the streets in the presence of the villagers. They continued to thrash her till she died. They later took her body to the hillocks at Mallapur village in Nirmal district late in the night and set it ablaze. They returned home on Sunday morning only after immersing her ashes in the nearby stream," a police official was quoted as saying.
This is yet another horror killing in the state. Earlier in September, a newly married 23-year-old man from a scheduled caste community was hacked to death in the Miryalaguda division of Nalgonda district.
A private hospital CCTV footage showed the victim, Peramalla Pranay Kumar is being attacked from behind by a tall man in a safari suit with a weapon on Friday afternoon. Kumar was his with his mother Premalatha and wife Amrutha Varshini. The man died before he could be administered emergency care, reported The Hindu.
"We had gone to the hospital for Amrutha Varshini's prenatal check-up," said his mother.
The report added that Kumar belonged to Mala sub-group, while Amrutha, 19, was from upper-class Vysya community. They knew each other from their school days, and had eloped in January and married at Arya Vysya Samaj in Hyderabad against the wishes of Amrutha's parents. In the first week of February, the two had approached the Inspector General-Hyderabad Stephen Raveendra seeking protection.
"My father said you abort the baby now. Live with him (Pranay) for 2-3 years, after that I will accept the marriage…I have no intention of aborting my baby. Pranay's baby is my future...he was such a nice person. He looked after me so well, especially after I became pregnant. I don't know why caste is so important in this time and age," Amrutha had told NDTV.
