IndiGo flight with 174 passengers on board evacuated in Patna after smoke seen in cabin

An IndiGo flight enroute to Delhi with 174 passengers on board was evacuated at the Patna airport on Friday after the crew noticed smoke in the cabin, reports said. All the passengers on board were safe.

An IndiGo statement said that flight 6E-508 was involved in a low speed reject due to suspected engine stall. It said that the flight was then evacuated in 60 seconds.

“IndiGo flight 6E-508 (Patna-Delhi) was involved in a low speed reject due to suspected engine stall. As  smoke was observed in cabin by the Cabin crew. Capt elected to evacuate due to precautionary reasons. All SOPs were carried out efficiently. Evacuation was completed in 60 seconds,” the statement said.

The airline said there was no tyre burst or fire in the engine and that the incident was reported to DGCA.

“There was no tyre burst or engine fire. Matter has been reported to DGCA proactively. An internal enquiry has also been initiated. There were 174 passengers on board. All passengers are safe. There was no technical snag reported when aircraft arrived at Patna. At IndiGo, safety of the passengers, crew and the aircraft is the top priority and at no time it can be compromised,” it said.

The incident has been reported to civil aviation watchdog DGCA and an internal inquiry has also been initiated by the airline. Four flights were delayed at the airport due to the incident.
