On the occasion of International Women’s Day 2017, world’s most popular search engine, Google is celebrating women’s contribution to the society with a special doodle.
The Google doodle aims to honour the struggle through which women have paved their way to excel in the every field of the society. The special doodle recognises the tale of 13 remarkable women in the form of a slideshow.
In the doodle, a grandmother is telling a story to a little girl in which she goes through a vision in which 13 different tales are told from around the world. These 13 women hail from different countries, pursuing different professions with their commendable contribution in an array of backgrounds.
Basically, the International Women's Day 2017 slideshow is a compilation of names who have already featured in individual doodles in the past. An Indian woman also feature in the list- Famous dancer and choreographer Rukmini Devi.
Apart from Rukmini Devi, other women who feature on the list are:
Ida Wells: American journalist, suffragist, and civil rights activist
Lotfia El Nadi: Egypt's first female pilot
Frida Kahlo: Mexican painter and activist
Lina Bo Bardi: the Italian-born Brazilian architect
Olga Skorokhodova: Soviet scientist and researcher in the field of deaf and blind communication
Miriam Makeba: South African singer and civil rights activist
Sally Ride: American astronaut and the first woman in space
Halet Cambel: Turkish archaeologist and the first Muslim to compete in the Olympics
Ada Lovelace: English mathematician, writer and the world's first computer programmer
Cecilia Grierson: Argentine physician, reformer and the first women in the country to be awarded a medical degree
Lee Tai-young: Korean lawyer and activist who was the first female lawyer and judge
Suzanne Lenglen: French tennis champion who made the sport popular
International Women's Day (IWD), originally called International Working Women's Day, is celebrated on March 8 every year. It commemorates the struggle for women's rights.
