A 35-year-old citizen of Laos was detained by the CISF at Jaipur International Airport (JIA) for trying to smuggle 1.5 kg gold worth Rs 45 lakh into the country, an official said.

The accused, Vatsna Sangphachan, was detained on suspicion after his arrival from Bangkok and later 1.5 kg gold was recovered from his shoes, he said.

The accused cannot speak English and his phone call records are being investigated, the CISF official said, adding that the gold has been seized.

Sangphachan has been handed over to the customs officials for further investigation into the matter, he said.
