Jammu and Kashmir: 6 terrorists killed in Anantnag encounter

New Delhi:

As many as six terrorists were killed after an encounter broke out between terrorists and security forces in the Bijbehara area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Friday morning, news agency ANI reported.  

"Six terrorists have been killed in the encounter. Arms and ammunition recovered. Operation continues," ANI tweeted.

"Based on a credible input about the presence of terrorists, a cordon and search operation was launched jointly by Police and security forces at the onset of dawn today inside a jungle area of Sekipora at Bijbehara in District Anantnag. As the searches were going on, the search party was fired upon by the terrorists. The fire was retaliated leading to a gunfight," Police said in a statement.

"In the process six terrorists were  killed and the bodies were retrieved from the site of encounter. Their identities and affiliation are being ascertained. Incriminating materials including huge quantity of arms and ammunition were recovered from the site of encounter. Police has registered a case and initiated investigation in the matter," the police said.

On Thursday, a civilian was injured during an exchange of fire between security forces and terrorists in the Khudwani area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Kulgam district. The exchange of fire began after terrorists fired upon an Army camp.

Earlier, an Army jawan was killed and four terrorists were gunned down in an encounter between security forces and terrorists in the Nadigam area of Jammu and Kashmir's Shopian district.

Last week, two terrorists were gunned down by security forces in an encounter in Shopian. The security forces began a cordon and search operation in the Rebban area of Zainapora after receiving credible inputs about the presence of terrorists. The terrorists fired on the search party following which security forces retaliated leading to an encounter. Arms and ammunition were recovered from the site of encounter.
