New Delhi:

Kamal Haasan, Tamil actor-turned-politician, Saturday declined to comment on the Sabarimala controversy, saying it won’t be proper to seek an opinion from him. The Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) founder-president said he would prefer to talk about things that would benefit women folk.

“It won’t be proper to seek an opinion from me on this matter. I will stay in the centre and say about things good for women. I don’t understand the (Ayyappa) devotees’ stand. So it is better not to interfere in that,” the MNM leader told reporters.

Kerala has been in turmoil as women devotees protested against the entry of girls and women of menstrual age as the Sabarimala temple opened on October 17 for the five-day monthly puja.

A Supreme Court bench headed by the then chief justice Dipak Misra on September 28 lifted the centuries-old ban on the entry of women of menstrual age into the Lord Ayyappa Temple in Sabarimala.
