New Delhi:

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday informed the Supreme Court that former union minister P Chidambaram's son Karti Chidambaram owned 25 properties abroad.

A bench headed by Chief Justice Dipak Misra was told by additional solicitor general Tushar Mehta that the CBI was submitting a report in sealed cover detailing the properties owned by Karti.

Congress leader and senior advocate Kapil Sibal said that the allegations levied by the CBI are innuendoes. These allegations aim at defaming Chidambaram family, he said.

"During Karti's questioning, not a single question was asked about the properties. If the government, income tax department or the CBI finds I have any undisclosed assets abroad, I am ready to sign a declaration that the government can take them over,” Sibal said while responding to the CBI’s allegations.

Earlier, Karti dared the government and the CBI on Monday to provide a list of his undisclosed assets, as alleged by the agency in the Supreme Court, terming the charges as “wild and reckless”.

Karti’s challenge came after the CBI told the apex court that it has furnished details about his “possible transactions” in foreign countries and 25 alleged offshore properties in a sealed cover.
