Former External Affairs Minister and senior BJP leader Sushma Swaraj congratulated the nation and also thanked PM Narendra Modi for the great victory in the case of Kulbhushan Jadhav. She wrote series of tweets and shared the news with the nation.
In a big victory for India, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) on Wednesday affirmed Indian national Kulbhushan Jadhav’s right to consular access. The court also directed Pakistan to provide effective review and reconsideration of his conviction and sentences. The court further said that Jadhav's execution should remain suspended until Pakistan effectively reviews and reconsiders the conviction/sentence. The court also recognised Pakistan's breach of the Vienna Convention.
In the first tweet, Sushma wrote, ‘’I wholeheartedly welcome the verdict of International Court of Justice in the case of Kulbhushan Jadhav. It is a great victory for India’’.
Second tweet says, ‘’I thank the Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi  for our initiative to take Jadhav's case before International Court of Justice’’.
The third tweet reads, ''I thank Mr.Harish Salve for presenting India's case before ICJ very effectively and successfully''.
Finally, the fourth tweet says, ''I hope the verdict will provide the much needed solace to the family members of Kulbhushan Jadhav''.Â
Jadhav, 49, a retired Indian Navy officer, was sentenced to death by the Pakistani military court on charges of "espionage and terrorism" after a closed trial in April 2017. His sentencing evoked a sharp reaction in India.
The court has, however, rejected most of the remedies sought by India, including annulment of military court decision convicting Jadhav, his release and safe passage to India.
President of the Court Judge Abdulqawi Ahmed Yusuf read out the verdict during a public sitting which will take place at 3 pm (6.30 pm IST) on Wednesday at the Peace Palace in The Hague, Netherlands.
