Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday launched a blistering attack against the opposition parties and said that the idea of 'Mahagathbandhan' (Grand Alliance) is a 'Mahamilawat' (Grand Adulteration) and the people are aware of it. Speaking from the floor of the Lok Sabha in his reply to the Motion of Thanks, PM Modi said, "In 2014, for the first time in 30 years, the people gave India its first full majority government. Now the Mahamilawat (Grand Adulteration) is about to come".
"The voters understand how a 'mahamilawat' government can be harmful to the country. When the government has a majority, the performance is undoubtedly different," he said. Then, in a dig at the 23-party Opposition rally in Kolkata, he said, "The voters do not want a "Mahamilawat" government of those who assembled in Kolkata," PM Modi added.
PM Modi also took a dig at Congress party president Rahul Gandhi and said that those who are labelling baseless allegations on him should first introspect. The prime minister also retorted to Rahul Gandhi's favourite slogan with a tweak of a well-known Hindi proverb. "The thief is scolding the chowkidar (watchman)," he said.
Attacking the Congress party over alleged scams in the defence deals, PM Modi said, "There has been not a single deal in the past which was done without a middleman involving in it. I want to say it on the floor of the Parliament that the Indian National Congress does not want our armed forces to be strong. They do not want our security apparatus to be strong. Which companies are they bidding for that they are acting so shamefully," he added.
Hitting out at Rahul Gandhi for his allegations on the Rafale fighter jet deal, PM Modi said the Congress did not wish to see the country's armed forces strong. "I wondered why they speak lies on Rafale with such confidence. Then I realised because they know in all their years in power there hasn't been a single honest defence deal. Some mama, some chacha kept coming in," he said.
In a frontal attack on the Congress, Prime Minister Narendra Modi alleged that those who imposed Emergency "bullied" the judiciary and insulted the Army were accusing him of destroying institutions. Hitting out at the Congress, PM Modi said for some BC stands for 'before Congress' and AD for 'after dynasty'.
"Congress imposed Emergency, but they say Modi is destroying institutions. Congress insults Army, calls the Army chief a 'goonda' but they say Modi is destroying institutions," the PM said in a hard-hitting reply to a debate on the Motion of Thanks to President's address in the Lok Sabha.
"The Congress misused Article 356 to dismiss state governments several times. Indira Gandhi herself dismissed state governments 50 times," PM Modi said. The prime minister said in a poll year, leaders have compulsions to make charges but lamented that while slamming Modi and BJP, some people "start attacking India".
He alleged that the opposition's ability to listen to the truth has diminished. The Congress, he said, questioned the Election Commission and Electronic Voting Machines but is accusing him of destroying institutions.
"Congress bullies the judiciary but Modi is destroying institutions. Congress calls Planning Commission a bunch of jokers but Modi is destroying institutions," PM Modi said. He also took a dig at the recent opposition rally in Kolkata organised by Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee.
