Lokmanya Balagangadhar Tilak, fondly known as ‘Lokmanya’ was born on 22 July, 1856 in Ratnagiri and later moved to Pune. The British gave him the name ‘Father of Indian Unrest’.

Teacher and journalist by profession, Tilak started his political life as a freedom activist and a social reformer.
