Mumbai:
Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee on Monday demanded removal of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s posters from petrol pumps in those districts where model code of conduct is in place for upcoming elections to Legislative Council, municipal corporations and Zilla Parishads.
Congress spokesman Sachin Sawant has also sought removal of various government advertisements.
Sawant said he called upon State Election Commissioner J S Saharia and also written to the electoral officer to press for the demand.
He said the State EC has failed to remove the PM’s posters from petrol pumps and also the government ads featuring Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis from buses, bus terminals and other prominent places.
He said elections for the teacher and graduate Legislative Council constituencies in Amravati, Nagpur, Konkan and Nashik divisions will be held on February 3.
Sawant said he wrote to Chief Electoral Officer Ashwini Kumar stating that posters of all political parties are being removed.
