Hearing on the issue of Maratha reservation, the Bombay High Court on Tuesday directed the Maharashtra government to submit its report on data collected till July 31 in relation to the socio-economic backwardness of Maratha committee within November 15. The Bombay High Court was notified that a total of five social organisations were assigned the task of collecting data as it was massive.

In the earlier hearings, the top court gave the Maharashtra government time till August 14 to clear out the progress made by the judicial commission to observe socio-economic backwardness of the Maratha community.
Earlier in 2014, the Bombay High Court reversed the notification granted by the Congress-NCP government to provide 16 per cent reservation to Marathas in the field of education and jobs.

In May, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis made an announcement that as many as 72,000 government jobs would be advertised in 2018-19.
On Tuesday, a class 11 student committed suicide siting high fees, quota for SC/ST and poverty hit people in her suicide note, said Ranjan Kumar Sharma, Superintendent of Police.
