Lucknow:

Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati on Monday said that the accident involving Unnao rape survivor appeared to be a conspired one and demanded Supreme Court intervention. Her remarks come hours after Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police OP Singh asserted that prima facie it seemed to be a case of an accident since the truck was coming at a high speed.

"The accident of Unnao rape victim's car with a truck in Raebareli prima facie looks like a conspiracy. Her two aunts have died and she along with her advocate is grievously injured. Supreme Court must take cognizance of the issues and must ensure strict action against the accused," she tweeted.

OP Singh insisted that there was no negligence in her security and the girl herself had requested the security personnel deputed for security not to accompany her to Raebareli yesterday.

“There was no negligence in her security. Due to lack of space in her vehicle, she requested the security personnel deputed for security not to accompany her to Raebareli yesterday,” Singh said.

He also said that if the family demands, they will hand over the case to CBI.

“We'll conduct a fair and free probe. Primary probe suggests it was purely an accident due to an overspeeding truck. Truck driver and owner have been arrested. If the family demands a CBI inquiry into the case, we'll hand over the case to CBI,” he said.

Earlier, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav demanded a CBI inquiry into the accident in which the Unnao rape survivor was critically injured. Underlining the absence of security personnel when the accident took place on NH 232, the former chief minister said that it could be a conspiracy to kill the girl, who levelled rape allegations against BJP lawmaker Kuldeep Sengar last year.

"The accident involving the Unnao rape victim in Raebareli is a serious incident, and there could be a possibility of murder behind this incident," Yadav said in a statement issued on Sunday.
