New Delhi:

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday shot a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, in which, she alleged that the MHA’s advisory to West Bengal was politically motivated and was part of a deep-rooted conspiracy by the BJP to “grab” power.

Following the clashes in West Bengal’s Basirhat in which two BJP men and one TMC activist were killed, the Ministry of Home Affairs had sent an advisory to the state government, expressing its “deep concern” over the incidents of violence post Lok Sabha elections.

In the advisory, the Home Minister said that the "unabated violence" even after the Lok Sabha polls appears to be a failure on part of the state government. The Centre also asked the Mamata Banerjee government to maintain law and order, peace and public tranquillity in the state.

"The unabated violence over the past weeks appears to be a failure on the part of the law enforcement machinery of the state to maintain the rule of law and inspire confidence among people," the advisory said.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has today called for a 'black day' in West Bengal against the killing of two of its party workers in post-poll clashes in North 24 Parganas district's Basirhat.

The BJP wanted to cremate the bodies of the workers who died the clash on the Basanti highway. Hundreds of workers gathered at the spot and preparations had started for a funeral pyre. But later, they decided to change their mind, announcing a series of protests, including a state-wide "Black Day".
