New Delhi :

The BJP government was voted to power three years ago and the saffron party has planned to celebrate the occasion by organising series of events from May 26 which would conclude on June 15.

The festival will be kicked off by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi with a series of events and a public meeting in Guwahati on May 26. The party chief Amit Shah is also likely address the media on the opening day.

On a day it was voted to power three years ago, the BJP on Tuesday asserted this was the day of accountability for the corrupt after government agencies searched Congress leader P Chidambaram's premises and properties allegedly linked to RJD chief Lalu Prasad.

A senior party leader informed the celebrations are planned to be held across 300 towns with seven programmes.

The BJP leaders further added Ministers and BJP leaders will tour the country to highlight central schemes and make the people aware about the government's "successes".

"There will be at least one event in every district," a party leader said. The massive saffron win in Uttar Pradesh, coupled with a fractured opposition which has so far been unable to challenge its surge, has given a boost to its top brass which has already set its eyes on the next Lok Sabha polls in 2019.

On the other hand, the opposition parties took a jibe at festivities organised by the BJP.

Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday asked the Centre that what it was celebrating after three years in power, as all it had to show for this time were “broken promises” and “non-performance”.

Pointing to farmer suicides and unemployment in the country, he said the last three years were a “betrayal” of the mandate the government had received.

“Youth are struggling to find jobs, farmers are committing suicide & soldiers are dying at the border. What exactly is the Govt celebrating?” Gandhi tweeted.

CPI national secretary D Raja said the ruling BJP is "celebrating the failures" of the Narendra Modi government on all fronts.

"The BJP, whose government completes three years this month, is celebrating its failures. The Modi government has  failed on all fronts," Raja told.

"This government hasn't kept its promises. The PM is resorting to rhetoric instead of fulfilling the pre-poll assurances," he said.
