An unknown fever has claimed 42 lives in many districts under Uttar Pradesh’s Bareilly division, forcing the state government to constitute three teams of doctors to look into the cases.
In the last three days, as many as six people died in Badaun and Shahjahanpur, officials said on Friday.
Chief medical officer (CMO), Bareilly, Vineet Kumar said 20 people had died in a fortnight in Bareilly district, said.
CMO, Badaun, Manjeet Singh said three fresh cases of death have been reported from the region. Earlier, the fever had claimed 16 lives in the district in the past 15 days.
CMO of Pilibhit Seema Agarwal sad there has been no casualty in the district, which too falls under Bareilly division.Health minister Sidharth Nath Singh had said the state government has constituted three teams of doctors to look into the cases in Bareilly and Badaun, UP DG (health) Padmakar Singh had told reporters in Bareilly.
Meanwhile, in Lucknow, director, medical and health (communicable diseases) Mithilesh Chaturvedi said, "A five-member team of the central government has also reached Bareilly. Preventive and remedial actions have been initiated in both the districts of the northern state".
