Amruta, from upper caste ‘Vaishya’ community, had claimed on Monday her father Maruti Rao and uncle were behind the attack as they strongly disapproved of her marrying a Dalit Christian. The names of some people with political links have also cropped up but police is yet to confirm their involvement.

The incident, which occurred last Friday, had also triggered protests by some Dalit groups in Nalgonda.
