Apart from the known personalities, there are some people in different parts of the country who have done exemplary work in various fields and deserve the Padma awards. But unfortunately, they are the unsung heroes of the country and their contribution for humanity often goes unnoticed.

President Pranab Mukherjee recently named 89 people for this year's Padma awards, country's highest civilian awards. Political stalwarts Sharad Pawar, Murli Manohar Joshi and the late PA Sangma are among the seven recipients of the Padma Vibhushan award, India's second-highest civilian honour.
Cricketer Virat Kohli and Carnatic musician KJ Yesudas are also among the 89 people who have been selected for this year’s Padma awards. Bharat Ratna, the highest civilian honour, will not be conferred on anybody this year. For the first time, the Padma list does not include any Bollywood actor.
