New Delhi :

Actor-turned-politician Hema Malini, who won the Mathura Lok Sabha seat by a margin of around 3 lakh votes, took oath as a member of the 17th Lok Sabha on Tuesday. Malini, dressed in a peach saree with golden borders, read the oath in Hindi and concluded her oath with 'Radhey, Radhey' and ‘Krishnam Vande Jagat Guru’ - a phrase from shloka in praise of Lord Krishna.

This led to the thumping of tables and chants of ‘Radhe Radhe’ by fellow lawmakers in the Lok Sabha.

Hema Malini retained Uttar Pradesh's Mathura seat for a second consecutive term in the recently concluded general elections. She had contested against Narendra Singh of the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) and local industrialist Mahesh Pathak of Congress.

Malini, known as Bollywood's 'dream girl', won Lok Sabha seat by a margin of 2,93,471, polling over 96,000 more votes than the 2014 Lok Sabha polls.

The actor-politician had polled 6,71,293 votes and her nearest rival Kunwar Narendra Singh of Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) got 3,77,622 votes, he said. The cinestar had trounced RLD vice-president Jayant Chaudhary by a margin of 3,30,743 votes in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.

Hema Malini had polled 5,74,633 votes in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.
