New Delhi:

Biju Janata Dal's Sabitri Agarwal has won the Patkura Assembly elections in Odisha. She defeated BJP's Bijoy Mohapatra. Congress’ Jayanta Kumar Mohanty was way behind both the candidates. BJD's candidate won the election by 17,920 votes getting a total of 96,017 votes. On the other hand, Mohapatra got 78,097 votes.

The winner has been decided after the counting for all the 18 round gets completed. Polling in Patkura was postponed twice following the death of BJD’s Bed Prakash Agarwalla and then due to cyclone Fani on May 19.

In a stellar performance in the recently concluded Assembly polls in Odisha, the BJD bagged 112 of 146 Assembly seats. The state has 147 assembly segments.

The BJD also won 12 out of the 21 parliamentary constituencies in the Lok Sabha elections, which was held simultaneously with the Odisha Assembly elections.

Patnaik, who led the party to an emphatic victory in the Odisha assembly elections, was sworn in as the chief minister for a record fifth consecutive term on May 29.
