With no respite in sight for consumers, the prices of petrol and diesel saw another marginal increase on Sunday. In Delhi, petrol prices have been hiked by Rs 0.14 taking it to Rs 81.82 per litre, while diesel is priced at Rs 73.53 which is an increase by Rs 0.29. In Mumbai, the petrol and diesel prices are pegged at Rs 87.29 and Rs 77.06, respectively, according to price notification by state-owned oil firms.
Despite the Central government’s decision to cut the Value Added Taxes (VAT) on fuel prices by Rs 2.50 and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-ruled states’ additional relief of Rs 2.50 recently, fuel prices are seeing a steady day-to-day increase.

In a letter to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Delhi Congress chief Ajay Maken on Saturday requested him to reduce the value-added tax on petrol and diesel "to the same level as it was in December, 2013, during the Congress regime in the city".
In a letter to Kejriwal, Maken pointed out that the VAT charged on petrol in Delhi is 27 per cent and that on diesel is 16.5 per cent, while the same during the Congress regime in Delhi was 20 per cent and 12 per cent, respectively.
On Saturday, petrol and diesel prices were Rs 80.37 and Rs 72.14, respectively in Gurugram. In Kolkata, petrol was priced at Rs 83.52 per litre while diesel was marked at Rs 75.09 per litre.
