PM Modi to inaugurate Hyderabad Metro on November 28

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set to bring in the Metro to one of India's leading Information technology hubs Hyderabad. The inauguration of the railway project which stretches for 72 km in three corridors in the capital of Telangana is scheduled on November 28.

Modi will be in the city to inaugurate the three-day Global Entrepreneurship Summit being organised by the US government in collaboration with Niti Ayog, at Hyderabad International Convention Centre in the evening.

Sources in Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) informed that to mark the beginning of the first juncture of the project, PM Modi will launch a pylon at Miyapur metro rail station which is the first point on the Mumbai-Hyderabad national highway covering a distance of 30 km.  

According to Sources, a presentation showcasing the evolution of railway system in Hyderabad panning from Nizam State Railways to the latest Metro Rail Project would be on display for the PM.

State governor ESL Narasimhan, Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao and other officials along with Modi are expected to travel a distance of 13km in the metro train.Two hours after the formal inauguration,the project will be open to the general public.“We are ready for theinauguration. We are awaiting the final itinerary of the Prime Minister,” a top official of the HMRL said.

Executed by Larsen and Toubro, The project is one of the biggest metro rail projects in public-private participation (PPP) mode. The 72-km long metro rail project commenced in April 2012 at an initial estimated cost of Rs 14,000 crore. As per the latest estimates, the cost has however gone up to over Rs 18,500 crore. 

Telangana IT minister K T Rama Rao said the state government had sanctioned Rs 3,000 crore to the Hyderabad Metro rail project of which Rs 2,240 crore had been spent so far. The Centre was providing Viability Gap Funding of Rs 1,458 crore and had so far released an amount of Rs 958 crore.He indicated that the State government has considered taking up Phase II of HMR to prepare a detail project report for the same.
