New Delhi:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday came out all guns blazing at the Congress and said that the Rahul Gandhi-led party has humiliated every institution of democracy, be it the Indian Army or the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG). In an apparent reference to the Rafale deal, PM Modi said the Congress has even questioned the Supreme Court verdict just because they did not like it. Last week, in a big relief to the Centre, the Supreme Court dismissed all the petitions seeking a court-monitored investigation into the Rafale deal.

Addressing the booth level workers via video conferencing from New Delhi, PM Modi also asked them to expand their outreach and create awareness about the BJP government's welfare schemes across the country. "The Congress party has become more cunning since the days of Emergency," the prime minister added, hitting out at the Congress.

Earlier in the day, Congress leader Anand Sharma criticised the Supreme Court's verdict on Rafale deal, alleging that the government has misled the court and dented its credibility.

"The government has not only misled the court but also insulted it with a curative petition saying the court had misinterpreted (the information submitted by the government)...It is up to the Supreme Court to correct the situation by recalling the self-contradictory verdict. It is up to the court to take action," Sharma said.

"What is the BJP celebrating? The judgement has dented the dignity and credibility of the apex court which needs to be restored," the Congress leader reiterated.

On Sunday, Congress president Rahul Gandhi lashed out at the Modi government, saying he will not let the "destruction" of institutions like the Supreme Court and the Reserve Bank of India happen. Addressing a DMK rally in Chennai, Gandhi said that the BJP government believes "only one idea should run India".

In a fresh round of attack Modi further accused the Congress of being double standards, with regard to Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).

"Before every election they begin to make noise about EVMs, trying to create an atmosphere of doubt. After elections, however, if Congress performs well, they seem to accept the results that have come out of the same EVM," the prime minister said.

Giving a clarion call to strengthen democracy, Modi said, "Information and awareness are important for democracy. We should keep people informed about Congress and its dangerous games".
