New Delhi:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday attended the 49th convocation ceremony of the Visva Bharati University in Santiniketan. PM Modi, while addressing the students said India and Bangladesh are two separate countries who are bonded by understanding and cooperation.

"India and Bangladesh are two separate countries, bonded by cooperation and understanding. Be it culture or public policy, the people of the two countries get to learn a lot from each other," he said.

 The 67-year-old leader fondly remembered 'Gurudev' Rabindranath Tagore while delivering his speeches and called the Nobel Prize Awardee a global citizen. He said that people during his foreign visits talk about him.

PM Modi, who began his speech in Bangla, assured the students that the central government was committed to addressing their needs.

The convocation ceremony was also attended by Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. The two along with Narendra inaugurated the Bangladesh Bhavan, which has been established on the university campus.

PM Modi, who is the Chancellor of the varsity sought apologies from the students for lack of arrangement for drinking water.
