Following the footsteps of the Congress, the Shiv Sena has trained its guns towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi in connection with the Rs 11,400 crore fraud case involving diamond merchant from Gujarat Nirav Modi and the Punjab National Bank (PNB).
“Modi ji ne sapna dikhaya tha 'Na khaunga na khane dunga', logon ne isiliye bhar ke vote diye. Par ye kya ho raha hai? Saamanya aadmi aaj bank se darta hai aur Lalit Modi, Nirav Modi, Vijay Mallya sab bhaag gaye sarkar ki naak ne neeche se (Modi ji had promised the people of India that he will neither indulge in any corrupt practice nor would allow anyone to do so and that is why the people gave him such a huge majority. But look at what is happening! The common man is afraid to approach the bank whereas Lalit Modi, Nirav Modi, and Vijay Mallya have fled the country after committing frauds worth billions and all this happened right under the nose of the government),” said Shiv Sena spokesperson Manisha Kayande.
The state-owned Punjab National Bank on Wednesday had detected a USD 1.77 billion scam in which billionaire jeweller Nirav Modi allegedly acquired fraudulent Letters of Undertaking (LoUs) from one of its branches for overseas credit from other Indian lenders in what could be the biggest banking fraud in India.
