Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasising and advocating on the need for simultaneous Lok Sabha and Assembly elections, said, “Conducting polls after every four to six months is hectic and costly for the nation.”
The prime minister emphasised for one election during an event to mark National Law Day on Sunday at Vigyan Bhavan.
“Many nations have simultaneous polling system and the dates are fixed. Simultaneous polls have its own benefit. The country will not always be on election mode,” said Modi.
He added, “The planning process, policy and its implementation will be more efficient.”
The prime minister also stated that single polls are burden for the country. He said, “The country invested Rs 1,100 crore during 2009 general plls, while Rs 4000 crore was incurred during 2014 general polls.”
Modi added, “India has also witnessed simultaneous elections. Due to various reasons the system got out of track.
