A joint team of army, CRPF paramilitary forces and Jammu and Kashmir police launched a cordon and search operation following credible inputs about the presence of terrorists at Batagund area of Karpan. One of the six terrorists killed in the encounter has been identified as the murderer of a former public prosecutor in Shopian a year ago. Another terrorist eliminated in the operation is the killer of a teenager in the area. The group he belongs to also posted a gruesome video, showing a blood-soaked knife and further threatened of more such attacks.
Apart from the gunning down, six rifles and ammunition were recovered from the encounter spot. Followed by the encounter the target house where the terrorists were hiding was destroyed by the troops.
