Pulwama attack: Several states announce compensation for families of killed CRPF jawans

Several states have announced compensation for the families of CRPF personnel who were killed in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama on Thursday. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh has announced a financial assistance of Rs 25 lakh each to the next of kin of the CRPF jawans from Uttarakhand killed in the attack, besides a government job to one member of each family. Two CRPF jawans from Uttarakhand were among the 40 personnel killed in the attack.

Odisha government has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakh each for the families of two slain CRPF jawans from the state, who were killed in Thursday’s terrorist attack. The ex-gratia was announced after Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik spoke to the family members of the two jawans.

Prasanna Sahu of Naugaon area of Jagatsinghpur district and Manoj Behera of Niali area in Cuttack district, were among the 40 jawans killed in the terrorist suicide bomber attack.

The Uttar Pradesh government has also announced an ex-gratia of Rs. 25 lakhs each to the families of the 12 CRPF jawans of the state killed in the terror attack in Pulwama, an official said.

The government has also announced job to one member of each soldier's family besides naming the link road in their native village after the martyrs, the spokesman said.

Directives have also been issued to ensure that the last rites of the jawans are performed with full state honours in which one minister of the state government besides DM and SSP remain present as representatives of the government, the official said.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has expressed profound grief over the deaths and prayed for peace for the departed soul, he said. 12 jawans belonging to the state were killed in the attack in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday, the official said.

Those who laid down their lives are Avdhesh Kumar Yadav (Chandauli), Pankaj Kumar Tripathi (Maharajganj), Amit Kumar (Shamli), Pradip Kumar (Shamli), Vijay Kumar Maurya (Deoria), Ram Vajeel (Mainpuri), Mahesh Kumar (Allahabad), Ramesh Yadav (Varanasi), Kaushal Kumar Rawat (Agra), Pradip Singh (Kannauj), Shyam Babu (Kanpur Dehat) and Ajit Kumar Azad (Unnao), the spokesman added.

In one of the deadliest terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir's three decades of militancy, a suicide bomber rammed an explosive-laden vehicle into a CRPF bus in Pulwama district, killing at least 40 personnel and leaving many critically wounded.

The Pakistan-based terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammad has claimed the responsibility for the attack.

Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das announced an ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakh for the family of a CRPF jawan from the state. The CM also promised a government job to a member of CRPF jawan Vijay Soreng's family.

Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh has announced Rs 12 lakh compensation and a government job to the next of kin of the four CRPF jawans from the state who died in the Pulwama terror attack. The mortal remains of these bravehearts would be cremated on Saturday with full state honours, the chief minister said as he expressed solidarity with the families of the soldiers.

Among the around 40 jawans who lost their lives in the barbaric attack in south Kashmir, Kulwinder Singh of Roopnagar district, Sukhjinder Singh of Tarantarn, Jaimal Singh of Moga and Manjinder Singh of Dinanagar were from Punjab. 

Reassuring his government's full support and cooperation to the families in their hour of grief, Singh said the people of Punjab stood by them.

The Madhya Pradesh government announced compensation of Rs 1 crore to the family of Ashwini Kumar Kachhi, a CRPF jawan from the state who was killed in the attack. CM Kamal Nath paid tribute to him and said: “The martyr’s family will receive Rs 1 crore in compensation, a house, and one family member will be offered a government job.”

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami announced a compensation of Rs 20 lakh each to the families of two jawans from the state killed in Thursday’s attack, ANI reported.

Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb announced compensation of Rs 2 lakh and the Maharashtra government announced Rs 50 lakhs for the families, according to ANI.

A Jaish suicide bomber on Thursday rammed a vehicle loaded with explosives into a bus carrying CRPF personnel in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kahmir. At least 40 jawans were killed in the attack and five sustained injuries.
