PWD scam: Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal's relative arrested by ACB

New Delhi:

The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Thursday arrested Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s relative in connection with the alleged PWD scam.

ACB chief Arvind Deep said that they have arrested Vinay Bansal, son of Kejriwal’s late brother-in-law Surender Bansal.

“He was a partner at the firm along with his father. In the PWD scam case, their company had submitted bills for purchasing materials for a construction work. Our investigation revealed there are no such firms. The bills were fake. He was arrested today,” the ACB chief said.

On May 9, 2017, the ACB had registered three FIRs in the alleged PWD scam that involved submitting fake bills to claim money for construction work.

One of the FIR was registered against Renu Constructions, the company owned by Kejriwal’s brother-in-law, Kamal Singh and Pawan Kumar.

In a complaint, Rahul Sharma, founder of Roads Anti-Corruption Organisation (RACO), had alleged that Kejriwal and PWD minister Satyendra Jain misused their office for grant of contracts to Bansal.

However, they Kejriwal and the Jain were not named in the FIRs.

The firm Renu Constructions was allegedly involved in financial irregularities in building a drainage system in north-west Delhi.

It was also alleged that the bills sent to the Public Works Department (PWD) for unfinished works were “false and fabricated”.
