Congress president Rahul Gandhi, on Saturday, dissolved the party’s highest decision-making body, the Central Working Committee (CWC), and instead formed a 34-member Steering Committee which will take over the Central Working Committee in the upcoming plenary session.

Some special invites have been dropped for the member selection, along with the prior CWC members being a part of the new committee, some of which are Amarinder Singh, Vilas Muttemwar, RK Dhawan, Shivajirao Deshmukh, MV Rajasekharan, Mohsina Kidwai, among others.

The first meeting of the newly formed Steering Committee will take place on Saturday, in which the schedule of the plenary session will be decided. The plenary session might be held before the start of the second part of the budget session of the Parliament on March 5.

The All India Congress Committee (AICC) plenary session will give a formal consent on the December 11 election where Rahul Gandhi was elected as the party president, which ended the entire process of organisational elections.

The Steering Committee will function till the end of the plenary session after which a new CWC will be put in place.
