New Delhi:

Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Friday caught Prime Minister Narendra Modi by surprise with his unexpected hug after firing salvo at him during the no-confidence motion debate in the Lok Sabha.

After the attack on Modi-led NDA government over a bunch of issues, including alleged scam in Rafale deal and job creation, Rahul walked across the well of the House to Modi and gave him a surprise hug.

The unexpected gesture by the Congress president took the prime minister, who is known for his famous ‘bear-hug’, by surprise. Modi initially looked stunned but did well to recover and called the Gandhi scion back patted him on the back.

The hug was praised by the Congress MPs and his mother Sonia Gandhi, who thumped their desks.

“This is what it means to be a Hindu,” Gandhi said after returning back to his seat and winked at the prime minister.

However, the Speaker of the House Sumitra Mahajan objected to the hug and winking after returning to his seat, saying this was against the gesture was against the dignity of the House.

Senior BJP leader and Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh took a dig at the Congress president for starting a 'chipko andolan' in Parliament.

Referring to the Congress chief's gesture During his speech, Singh said, "Rahul Gandhi started a 'chipko aandolan' in the Lok Sabha.
