New Delhi:

Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Friday termed Rafale fighter deal as the country’s biggest ever defence scam and alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was a "partner" in it. The Congress president was in Chhattisgarh on Friday to inaugurate the party’s new office in Raipur. Addressing the event, Rahul slammed Modi for his "silence" on rape incidents in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Rajasthan. He also said that Modi failed to keep his promises to farmers, youth and the poor people.

Rahul also set off the Jungle Satyagraha campaign of Adivasi Congress on Friday.

Apart from it, Rahul also approved a 32-member election committee for the party’s Madhya Pradesh unit. The committee also includes top Congress leaders Kamal Nath, Jyotiraditya Scindia and Digvijaya Singh as members.

Congress Legislative Party (CLP) leader Ajay Singh “Rahul”, party MPs Kantilal Bhuria, Vivek Tankha and Rajmani Patel are also part of the committee, AICC general secretary Ashok Gehlot said.

The Congress is preparing for the Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections in the later part of the year with the view to oust the ruling BJP, which has been in power in state for the last 15 years.

The working presidents of the Madhya Pradesh unit Ram Niwas Rawat, Bala Bachhan, Surendra Choudhary and Jeetu Patwari, and presidents of state units of the Mahila Congress, the Youth Congress, the NSUI and the Seva Dal have also been included in the panel, Gehlot said.

The committee also includes chairmen of the SC, OBC, minority and the Kisan Congress, and state party leaders Suresh Pachauri, Arun Yadav, Inderjit Patel, Satyavrat Chaturvedi, Arif Aqeel, Govind Singh, Sunderlal Tiwari, Meenakshi Natrajan, Vijay Laxmi Sadho and Mahendra Joshi, Grhlot added.
