New Delhi:

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday took a jibe at Pakistan and said that no country should get "such a neighbour". He also reiterated former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's remark to state that no country has the privilege to change its neighbouring nation.

During his address to Army veteran at an event in New Delhi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said, “Sabse badi ashanka toh hume hamare padosi ke bare mein rehti hai.Samasya yeh hai aap dost badal sakte hain magar padosi ka chunav aapke haath mein nahi hota hai. Aur jaisa padosi hamare bagal mein baitha hai, paramatma kare ki aise padosi kisi ko na mile ("Our main concern is our neighbour. The problem is you can change our friends but it is not in your hands to change your neighbour. I pray that no one gets a neighbour like we have).”

The statement of Rajnath Singh comes a day after Pakistan announced to cut trade and downgrade diplomatic relation with India. These moves were taken by Pakistan government days after the Indian government-led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the bifurcation of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh. Also, the Article 370 and 35A of the Indian Constitution were removed.

Irked by the giant move of Indian government over Jammu and Kashmir, Pakistan government has also announced to approach the United Nation against scrapping of the special provisions.

On Tuesday, Parliament approved modification in Article 370 of the Constitution which provides subjects of the state with the special right on land, government jobs, scholarship among others.
