New Delhi:

An FIR was registered against unknown persons in connection with the case of a Kargil martyr's daughter who complained of receiving "rape threats" allegedly from ABVP members.

Now the ABVP members have also demanded probe into the matter by writing a letter to Morris Nagar SHO.

Kaur who showed courage to raise voice with her social media campaign against ABVP withdrew from a student march planned for Tuesday, saying she has shown enough courage and wants to be left alone.

Following the alleged online rape and murder threats, 20-year-old Delhi University student Gurmehar Kaur, who took on ABVP over North Campus violence met Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chief Swati Maliwal.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is also expected to meet LG at 2.30 pm on Tuesday to demand action against ABVP and rape threats Gurmehar Kaur.

In a 30-minute meeting with the DCW chief, Kaur had submitted a complaint and screenshots of threats issued to her on social media.

Maliwal said that 'DCW Home Guards' were providing security to Kargil martyr's daughter, who complained of receiving "rape threats" allegedly from ABVP members.

Maliwal, in a letter to Delhi Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik called the act shameful and demanded that an FIR be registered against the abusers and security be provided to the girl and her family.

“Presently, DCW Home Guards providing protection to Gurmehar Kaur. We will be with her 24*7. Hope Delhi Police urgently gives her protection,” Maliwal tweeted earlier in the day.

Delhi Police files FIR on rape threat to DU Student Gurmehar Kaur

Kaur, last week had changed her Facebook profile picture into one holding a placard reading, “I am a student from Delhi University. I am not afraid of ABVP. I am not alone. Every student of India is with me. #StudentsAgainstABVP.”

Sooner the post went viral on social media, prompting students from various varsities across the country to change their profile pictures with similar placards.

This has led to a political slugfest with Congress demanding an apology from Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley for his comments on the Ramjas row. Jaitley during a speech at London School of Economics and Political Science had said that an 'alliance of subversion' was the real reason behind violence on campus.

Following which, Congress spokesman Manish Tiwari asked for an apology from the minister for making such a remark on Indian academia, that too while on foreign soil.
