Rohit Shekhar Tiwari, son of late former Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand CM ND Tiwari, died on Tuesday. DCP South Delhi Vijay Kumar said Rohit Shekhar has been brought dead to Max Saket hospital in New Delhi. In 2014, ND Tiwari, who was dragged to court by Rohit Shekhar who claimed to be his biological son, finally accepted him as his son, putting an end to a prolonged legal battle on the issue.
Shekhar, an advocate by profession, came to limelight in 2008 when he went to court against Tiwari claiming he was born out of an affair between the Congress leader and his mother.
In 2012, Tiwari – who had quit as Andhra Pradesh Governor after a purported video of his sexual escapade was leaked - was forced to give samples of his DNA for a paternity test after warnings by the Delhi High Court. The court had even authorised the police to enforce its order if needed. Following which, the former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh moved to Supreme Court against the test but failed to stop it.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed his “deepest condolences at the untimely death of Shri Rohit Shekhar Tewari.”
It is not yet clear what led to Rohit Shekhar Tiwari's sudden death. However, hours later, his mother Ujjwala Tiwari said he died a natural death. "His death is natural. I have no suspicion but I will reveal later what circumstances led to his death," news agency ANI quoted her as saying.
According to Joint Commissioner, Delhi Police, Devesh Shrivastava, Rohit Shekhar Tiwari suffered a nose bleed, which his servants reported to his mother.
