A question under the Right to Information Act (RTI) regarding Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s pledge to deposit Rs 15 lakh into every Indian’s account has failed to get an apt response from the Prime Minister’s office. The application had enquired about the exact date when the promised money will be deposited.
In a response, PM’s office has said that this cannot be considered ‘information’ under the rules of the RTI Act, as per a leading press agency.
In 2014, Narendra Modi had said while campaigning for the Lok Sabha election that the party would bring back black money to India and deposit Rs 15 lakh to every citizen’s bank account.
The RTI request was filed on November 2016, just days after the PM announced a ban on Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 notes.
The applicant Mohan Kumar Sharma, has now said that the complete information has not been provided to him by PM’s office and the RBI, as per the reports.
Sharma also enquired about how the print media had advanced information about demonetisation, another enquiry that the PMO said does not fall under Section 2(f) of the RTI Act.
