New Delhi:

India’s obsession with social media and selfies has touched a new low as onlookers took selfies and video shoot of a road accident that claimed three lives in Rajasthan, according to a police official on Wednesday.

Three men lost thier lives when their bike was smashed by a school bus in Rajasthan on Tuesday. One died on the spot while the other two were declared dead after a span of half an hour, police said, condemning the behaviour of the crowd who were busy taking selfies of the incident.

Photos and videos surfacing on social media show people’s obsession with selfies as the victims were covered in pools of blood in the middle of the road.

The three deceased were working as labourers, according to reports.

A video circulating on social media shows around a dozen men watching the victims in a semi-circle as they bled to death on the road.

According to the local police, not a single person came forward to offer help or took them to the hospital.

Netizens criticised the latest incident, saying laws should be made to punish onlookers who do not offer help to the injured.

India ranks as number one in the world in terms of selfie-related accidents, as per a study in the International Journal of Mental Health and Addiction.
