New Delhi:

To salute the indomitable courage and valour of our brave hearts, India Saturday celebrates the second anniversary of the surgical strike carried out by the India Army across the Line of Control (LoC) on Pakistan in 2016. The three-day event being touted as Parakram Parv was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday and will continue till Sunday, September 30, 2018.

Apart from several events organised in different cities across the country, a special programme on the lawns of India Gate in the heart of the national capital showcases the heroism of Indian armed forces. The event has started with a bugle call on Friday with Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman herself present on the occasion.

During the three-day event, citizens from across India will be allowed to send their messages to soldiers by signing on the huge digital canvas, installed in the campus. Apart from that, short films, photographs, letters addressed to our soldiers and captured weapons of terrorists are also on the display.

What is the Surgical Strike?

In what could be a proud moment for all the Indian citizens, army personnel on the intervening night of September 28 and 29, 2016, carried out surgical strikes on seven terrorist launch pads across the Line of Control (LoC).

The strike was a response to a ghastly terror attack by Pakistan on an army camp in the Uri town of Jammu and Kashmir. The deadly attack by Pakistan had left 19 Indian soldiers dead, leading our brave jawans to destroy the terror launchpads of the Pakistan-backed terrorists and eliminate over 40 terrorists in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
