New Delhi:

Former External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj announced on Saturday that she has vacated her government bungalow and Twitter is in love with the ‘class act’! “I have moved out of my official residence 8, Safdarjung Lane, New Delhi. Please note that I am not contactable on the earlier address and phone numbers,” Swaraj said on micro-blogging site. The tweet has been retweeted 3.5 K times and has garnered 26K likes. Twitter instantly lauded her decision to leave the official residence. A BJP veteran, Swaraj didn’t contest the Lok Sabha polls and is not a minister in the Modi Sarkar 2.0.

People are hailing Swaraj for setting the right example. “अन्य पार्टी वालों को कोर्ट का सहारा लेकर मकान से खदेड़ना पड़ता है, और आप स्वयं खाली कर के जा रही हैं.... इसे कहते हैं संस्कार और समर्पण.”

“Your ethics & probity in public life is role model for all of us , Sushma Ma’am !,” said another user.

“All the Best Ma'am. You have always been an inspiration and Even here you set an example for others to follow,” said an emotional post.

“ये देखिए इसे कहते हैं परिपक्व राजनेता जिनका जनता भी आदर करतीं हैं वरना कुछ लोग तो सरकारी आवास खाली नहीं करते और जबरन ख़ाली करना पड़े तो टोंटियां भी चोरी करके साथ ले जाते है,” said a user in an apparent dig at Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav.

“I am so happy to see this. Class act. Doing the right thing and setting the standard for propriety. I hope others who also need to take a cue from this and follow suit,” said one of the twitter followers.

Narendra Modi government last month appealed to all former lawmakers to vacate their official houses to accommodate 267 first-term MPs.

Union Cabinet also cleared The Public Premises (Eviction of Unauthorised Occupants) Amendment Bill, 2019 earlier this month on June 12 - it is to be introduced in the current session.
