Train mishaps in UP continue, Kaifiyat Express derails 3 days after Utkal Express tragedy, 74 injured, 4 critical

Ten coaches of Kaifiyat Express derailed near UP's Auraiya district on early Wednesday morning, resulting in injuries to at least 74 people. This is the second rail accident in the state in four days. According to the reports the incident occurred at 2:40 AM when engine collided with a dumper.

NDRF team reached Kaifiyat express train derailment site.

Principal Secretary Home said rescue operation over, 74 passengers received minor injuries. He added that 4 are critical, 2 referred to Etawah and 2 to Saifai. An NDRF team is being sent for the accident spot for rescue operations.

"10 bogies and engine derailed after colliding with a dumper. No news of deaths," said Anil Saxena, DG PRO, Railways. 

"Some passengers have received injuries and have been shifted to nearby hospitals, senior officials directed," said Suresh Prabhu on Kaifiyat express derailment. 

All passenger trains scheduled to run on Kanpur-Tundla section were cancelled and 7 trains diverted due to Kaifiyat express train derailment.

"No passenger suffered serious injuries, for stranded passengers we are sending a train that'll take them to Delhi. Accident Relief Train (ART) train placed at the spot for re-railment and railway line will be operational soon," said GK Bansal, NCR Railway CPRO. 

The Delhi-bound train was coming from Azamgarh, when the train met with an accident while leaving from Achhalda. Officials rushed to the spot to provide rescue and relief operations to the passengers.

The engine, power car, four general coaches–B-2-H1-A2-A1-S10 have derailed, according to media reports.

This is the second rail accident since last Saturday after Utkal Express derailment in Muzaffarnagar district of UP, killing 22 people and injuring 156.
