Terrorist gunned down in Jammu and Kashmir's Kulgam, fierce encounter underway

A terrorist was killed on early Wednesday morning after a gunfight with security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kulgam district. Heavy firing exchanges were going on between holed-up terrorists and the security forces since Tuesday evening, reports said.

After receiving specific information about the presence of terrorists in Kulgam district’s Tazipora village on Tuesday evening, security forces including Rashtriya Rifles (RR), special Operations Group (SOG) of the state police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) carried out a cordon and search operation.

“The cordon and search operation was started late Tuesday evening. As the security forces came close to the house where the terrorists were hiding, they fired triggering an encounter which is going on, at present,” police sources said.

Mobile Internet services have been suspended in the Kulgam district.

Pakistani spies arrested from Jammu

In another incident, the Indian Army detained two suspected spies, who were found videographing and taking pictures near Ratnuchak Military Station in Jammu, and handled over to the police for further interrogation on Tuesday. According to the initial information shared by the army, both were in regular touch with Pakistan and a few hours before their arrest, they had contacted in the neigbouring country.

While one of them is from Kathua, the other hails from Doda, the officials said. Officials said an army patrol noticed the two moving suspiciously at Parmandal Morh near Ratnuchak Military Station and kept a close watch on them.

They were seen taking pictures and videographing the military station and were immediately taken into custody for questioning, the officials said.
